About Home Row
Why it's called that
"Home row" is the actual term for it — the resting position of your fingers on a keyboard, ASDF on the left hand, JKL; on the right. It's the first thing anyone learns when they're taught to type properly, the place your hands return to between words. Everything about this site is built around that same idea: a clean, unhurried place to find out how fast your hands actually move.
What it does
Type the passage on screen before the timer runs out. You'll see your words-per-minute and accuracy update live, plus a small graph tracking your pace as you go — useful for noticing whether you start fast and fade, or warm up as you type.
How it's different
Nothing you type is ever uploaded, logged, or stored — the entire test runs locally in your browser. There's no account, no leaderboard tied to your identity, no ads interrupting a 30-second test. Just you, a passage, and a clock.
